MICH policy concerning destructive sampling for DNA extraction:

Permission is granted to sample material from MICH collections on a case-by-case basis. We recognize the potential usefulness of selected herbarium specimens as a source of  DNA and refuse permission only if the collection is too small or rare to allow the loss of any material.

Specimens used in destructive sampling studies must be annotated. The annotation should include the following information: type of material removed, when and by whom, nature of study. Because sampled specimens become vouchers for the study, reference to the collection’s location at MICH should appear in the publication, and a copy of that publication should be deposited at MICH.

The resulting sequence data must be deposited in GenBank and the accession number reported to MICH.
